- Hyperlight rated ice axe – 7.01 oz (198.7 g)
- All-aluminum construction
- Added security for traversing steep slopes
- Self belay and self arrest safely
- Thru-hiker favorite
Corsa is one of the lightest rated ice axes in the world. A hyperlight 7.01 oz (198.7 g), you’ll hardly notice it on your pack. Made completely of aluminum, while maybe not the choice for steep alpine or ice climbing, Corsa excels on neve snow and low-angle glacier hiking. Take it along to gain more security on that sketchy traverse, self belay when you slip, glissade safely, or self arrest when necessary. Corsa is a thru-hiker favorite.
The head and shaft are made from tough and light 7075-T6 aluminum alloy and meet all CE and UIAA requirements for strength and durability. The forged head, with a classic-curved tip, delivers a solid bite while the rear adze adds chopping power. Grooves on the bottom of the shaft enhance grip. To achieve this unbelievable weight, the adze is a little smaller and the spike has been integrated right into the shaft. A nylon spike plug keeps snow and ice out of the shaft.
Corsa is ideal for early/late-season hiking, mellow glacier travel, ski mountaineering, and adventure racing on low slope, softer snow. Corsa is not recommended for ice climbing, rugged mixed terrain, intense step cutting, or making a tent platform on ice.
Accessories
Add a Leash to secure the ice axe should you drop it. It keeps you from losing the ice axe in the event of a fall, preventing serious risk on a climb or traverse. The Touring Leash, made of nylon webbing, slides up the shaft followed by a rubber stopper to hold it in position. The Corsa Leash attaches to the axe head, is adjustable in length, and has an easy open wrist loop.
Add X-Grip 2 Tape to the shaft to improve grip with gloves.
Add an Axe Head Protector on the pick and adze to protect your gear during storage and travel.
Sizing Guide
Stand up straight and with your arm down your side, make a fist. Have someone measure from the center of your fist to the bottom of your calf and then measure from the center of your fist to the top of your ankle. Ice axe length should be between these two measurements.
Keep in mind, an ice axe is not supposed to be a cane while hiking on flat ground. Too short is better than too long. Proper length also depends on intended use. If most of your trips will be on low-slope terrain or traversing across steep slopes, longer is better. If most of your trips will be on steeper terrain, go with a shorter axe. Due to infrequent use, thru hikers may prefer a shorter length to save weight.
