FlexAir® Pillows are the lightest inflatable pillows available. They are compact and so simple to use. The firmness can be easily adjusted for maximum comfort. The exterior has a soft nap, durable, non-woven exterior material that’s comfortable against your skin. But do you really need a pillow? Why not just put your spare clothes in a stuff sack and use it for a pillow? Well, many ultralighters wear nearly all their clothes to sleep to extend the temperature rating of their sleeping bag, leaving little to make a pillow.

FlexAir Inflatable Pillows are available in two sizes – small and large. The small pillow for the minimalist is 13 x 9 x 3 in. (33 x 22.9 x 7.6 cm) when inflated and weighs a scant 0.56 oz (16 g). The large pillow for more comfort is 16 x 11 x 4 in. (40.6 x 27.9 x 10.2 cm) when inflated and weighs 0.9 oz (27 g). Large is a better size if you roll side to side during the night. If you don’t move much while you sleep, small should work fine.

Instructions

  1. To inflate, insert the straw provided about 6 in. (15 cm) into the clear plastic valve near the corner of the pillow. Blow directly into the end of the straw until the pillow reaches the desired firmness. This should take just 3-4 puffs. Then pull the straw out (the valve will self-seal) and store it where you can find it later.
  2. To adjust pillow firmness, re-insert the straw and blow into the end to inflate or release air to deflate. When finished, pull the straw out. Many prefer less than fully inflated.
  3. To quickly deflate, re-insert the straw into the valve and squeeze the air out until the pillow is flat. Roll or fold the pillow for storage and stow the straw with it.
  4. If you lose the straw, the pillow can be inflated by blowing directly into the valve and deflated by sticking a long, thin, non-sharp object into the valve to release the air.

    Effective, light, and inexpensive

Love it, great package, extremely durable, if anything it’s hard to get the air out

    Unbelievable for the price

Posted by Unknown on 28th Nov 2022

I wasn’t expecting much for the small price but tried it anyway. I was skeptical when I saw there was no discernible valve on the pillow. The pillow arrives folded up flat in a plastic sleeve and what appears like a plastic drinking straw. I put the straw into the slot opening on the pillow and blew it up about half way. When I pulled the straw out, the pillow surprisingly sealed and has never yet let any air out. I keep it in my chair to provide lumbar support and it has done so quite well. The pillow is essentially a plastic sleeve with a self sealing valve and a micron dusting of something that gives it a cloth like “nap” for lack of a better word. I am very satisfied with the function this pillow delivers for such a modest price.

    Lightweight and Effective

Posted by Dave on 3rd Aug 2022

I use this large FlexAir Inflatable Pillow under my regular camping pillow, which is just not thick enough. The FlexAir pillow is easy to inflate and stays inflated. It is also easy to adjust to the thickness and firmness desired. Much better than trying to use a stuff sack filled with excess clothing items. And the pillow is so light and compact.

Lite and perfect. How I put up the straw without breaking or loosing it?

these pillows are really light. They do make some crinkle sounds but I think they will be fine.

Lasts way longer than $40 pillows!!!!

Posted by David Seals on 7th Jun 2020

I have owned 4 different backpacking pillows and none have lasted a quarter as long as this $3 pillow. I used this 21 nights in a row on the long trail without a single issue and it was comfortable to boot.

    Price and weight are unbeatable.

Posted by Unknown on 12th Nov 2019

Best three bucks I've ever spent incredibly thick great support. Used on a couple trips I'm very careful with it and use it wrapped in my fleece jacket. Seems sturdy enough for its purpose and surprisingly so given its 1 ounce weight. If I have a problem with the one I purchased I will definitely buy another.

    Surprisingly good

Very comfortable to sleep on. I inflated it about halfway and it was perfect. How can you beat it for the weight and the price.

    Barley There Comfort

Posted by Art on 18th Mar 2019

Previous to the FlexAir pillow, I was always challenged to find a workable solution without a weight or volume penalty. Easy to use and pack, the FlexAir pillows are the perfect solution. Paired with a Buff "pillowcase", this is truly barley there backcountry luxury. The added red inflating straw is really thoughtful as well.

    Incredible Pillow

Posted by Knobs on 17th Jan 2019

I used several other inflatable pillows that simply were not thick enough for me to sleep comfortably so I had been lugging around a 10 oz foam pillow. This pillow can blow up thick enough to still have some give while holding my head where I want it. I love it, and I have a hard time imagining that I'll go to anything else anytime soon.

    Best Ultralight pillow

Posted by Steve M Musarra on 11th Aug 2018

Used the pillow on a weekend hammock trip and this pillow weighs almost nothing, and is so simple. I like the way it is adjustable to the firmness you want, inflate it to the max and you have a pillow to sit up and rest on. You can deflate easily to use as a sleeping pillow and the rectangular shape fits in the hammock perfectly. Goodbye to my other pillows, this ones the keeper.

Amazing pillow for such a light weight!

Posted by Dave on 9th May 2018

I've only used these a few nights, so I have no idea how long they'll last overall, but if preliminary evidence is any indication, for the amount of backpacking I do they'll easily work for a season or more. I'm marveling at the valve - it really IS like magic! There was zero air loss overnight. If I were to try a thru hike I might be tempted to invest in a standard inflatable job (or maybe put these in re-supply boxes?

    Love this pillow

Posted by Rob on 18th Aug 2017

As I shaved out extra clothing from my pack, I was left without a viable "pillow". With a fast approaching trip, I read some reviews on these and decided to give them a spin. I asked if these could be packaged and sent to me in an expedited manner and was obliged! Arrived quickly and was able to test them out for a few nights. Man, what an upgrade from using a fleece. This thing is surprisingly durable and doesn't deflate (I toss and turn constantly during the night). Would recommend to anyone.

Surprising quality for a "plastic" pillow

Posted by Abraham Friedman on 17th Dec 2016

I picked up a 3 pack just to give this a try. It sounded too good to be true but I was pleasantly surprised when I received them. They are sturdier than I expected so we'll see how long they last. The valve is magic. You just put in the straw and inflate and take the straw out and it seals. No fussing. Very simple. Didn't leak in the short test I did but again, we'll see how it works overnight. The valve is your typical plastic but you only interact with about a quarter inch of it. The rest of the pillow is made up of a smooth and soft material, almost like a super soft Tyvek. Very comfortable and not plasticy feeling at all. If this holds up and continues to work this will be the best purchase I've made this year. It weights 1/10th what my current pillows weigh and has the same shape and, most important as a side sleeper, it's deep enough to support my head.

    light and compact!

Posted by jason on 2nd Jun 2016

Great pillow. I use mine as a leg pillow, to take the pressure off my knees in my hammock. This thing is super light, easy to inflate and deflate, hasn't lost air on me yet, packs small, and is comfortable. Great option, great price.
