Nylofume® Pack Liner Bags are fully waterproof to keep your gear dry. They’re made from a special nylon film that's also an odor resistant barrier to help keep your food and smellables under bear radar. Originally made to protect food and medicine during home fumigations, these bags make great backpack liners.

Nylofume bags have been known to last on thru hikes and are found tougher than trash compactor bags which eventually develop pinholes. And they’re lighter at just 0.91 oz (25.9 g).

The material is clear to help you see where things are inside. To seal, simply twist, fold over, and use a bungee strap or rubber band. Or for a loose seal just fold over several times. They measure 20 x 37 in. (50.8 x 94 cm) and fit most lightweight backpacks, but the length can be cut down if necessary. Use one for all your gear or two to separate your sleeping bag/quilt and clothes from your food/smellables and wet gear.

    Ultralight & Functional

Posted by Dustin Buttigieg on 5th Mar 2024

When I started backpacking I began with an Osprey bag liner, as I progressed with upgrading to lighter and lighter gear, I transitioned to the tried and true trash bag as a pack liner. Now I have evolved to using these bags to line my 60L pack. Just finished a 3-day section hike on the AT. These bags are tougher than they look, are definitely reusable, easily handle trail conditions, and when they do wear out they can simply become a regular ole trash bag. Just so you know, the bag is not quite big enough to tie off if a 60L pack is truly jam packed, but almost. And that’s not really an issue for me. I’m really just using these to keep my tent, clothing and sleeping bag dry. Cheap and it works. What more do you need?

    Best Pack Liner

Posted by Evan on 30th Dec 2023

I’ve tried nylofume bags sold by other vendors, and they’ve proven to be significantly less strong and louder than the Litesmith ones. As usual, Litesmith has found the absolute best product.

    Love the new quieter material!

Posted by Unknown on 6th Jul 2023

Finally had to order a new liner after years of use and love the new quieter material! Seems just as durable as the old formulation, and is of course just as waterproof! Full day of hiking in a downpour and all of my gear was still dry. If I could give 10 stars I would! [Litesmith] The product has not changed.

    No Leaks

Posted by Unknown on 22nd Nov 2022

Been using these backpack liners for years. I do not use stuff sacks. All of my downy goodness and clothes go in the backpack before I twist the liner off. Food and rain gear go next. I have never had a bag leak on me and I have 100 percent confidence in these liners. These are a must have for me.

    Lasts >1000 miles

Posted by Zen on 28th Feb 2022

In roughly 2,200 miles, I’ve gone through two of these liners. The first separated at the bottom, and the second got a cut in it. I love that they’re 100% waterproof, durable, and lightweight. I was worried about the crinkle, but never noticed any sound when it was in my pack. A little loud when actually packing it, but that’s a minute long ordeal, in a 24 hour day. I don’t think you could get a better pack liner for any price. I will continue to use these for as long as I backpack.

    Not bad at all.

Posted by Unknown on 23rd Jan 2022

Not sure if there's anything that can compares in terms of finding that sweet spot between durability, weight, and water resistence. These things work excellent for my needs, and the price is fair for what you're getting. I get a lot of uses out of one liner. Always a pleasure buying from Litesmith.

Big enough to line a pack and keep bears safe.

Posted by SlowBro on 25th Sep 2021

Great product. As a pack liner, plenty big enough for a 60L pack and durable enough for a 400 mile trek. Kept everything dry in the pack. Used a second one to line my food sack, we were in grizzly country. Glad to say no bears visited our campsites during the month. So I'd say odor-proof, too. I don't think you will find a lighter alternative.

    Works perfectly!

Posted by Unknown on 14th Sep 2021

These pack liners are the best on the market. Lightweight, yet sturdy, durable enough for my 12-day trip. Got caught in a torrential downpour, and everything in my pack stayed dry thanks to this liner. The extra few ounces are totally worth the peace of mind, and simply a great product and a great value.

    so far so good!

Posted by Kyleigh VanderWell on 29th Aug 2021

Just got these liners and I took one out backpacking in some sand dunes. They fit well in my REI Flash 55. There was a storm and everything inside the bag stayed dry. It was lightweight and durable. This was only a one night trip, so I'm not sure how they hold up over time, but I would buy them from litesmith again because of the great service, accuracy, ease of purchase and communication from the company, and fair prices.

Who needs a fancy compression bag?!!

Posted by Chris on 11th Jun 2021

This is super light weight and very durable. I use this to stuff my quilts in (hammock camper) press down, twist the excess bag and fold it under itself and then place into the bottom of my pack. For the cost this is a no brainer, no need for a fancy DCF rolltop or draw string baggie at 10-15x the cost.

    Light weight and durable

Posted by Eric C on 22nd May 2021

These pack liners are a game changer for me. They are light, durable, thin, and, most importantly, very water resistant. They are also clear, which is a big benefit for me as it makes it easier to see the contents of my pack. I use one of these for my 48L pack and another one for my small day pack, which I cut into a smaller size to better fit the small pack.

    Excellent product

Posted by David Colbert on 8th Feb 2021

I've used compactor bags for many years as pack liners. They are very tough and inexpensive. Recently I read about the Nylofume bags and how they were even tougher (though that is yet to be seen when compactor bags last for years!) and lighter (they are about an ounce lighter), so I thought I'd give them a try. I've only used them on one trip so far, but they worked great for compressing and protecting my down gear. Since they have odor resistant properties, I'll probably give them a try to line my bear bag as well. If there is one downside, it's that they make a crinkly sound like a chip bag. However, I didn't notice it once they were in my pack. The only reason they get four stars instead of five is that their longevity isn't proven yet.

    Great for backpacking

Posted by Gene on 9th Jan 2021

Bought a 3 pack last year and hiked 17 days on the Appalachian trail in GA and NC. Replaced the first bag after 10 days when I tore a hole in it with a tent pole. Still have one bag left. They weigh almost nothing (1oz/29g) but are very durable. I carried a second one just in case. They make a crinkly sound like a potato chip bag but it's not as noticeable after a couple days use. Much better than a trash compactor liner for keeping gear dry. Bought another 3 pack for this year.

1st one was punctured, thankfully they're cheap

Posted by Jeff on 27th Aug 2020

I originally bought just one and used it for a few overnights, nothing crazy and it worked out fine. Then i did a 14 day section hike of the AT and it somehow got two, 1/2 inch punctures in the mid bag. I'm still trying to figure out how that happened b/c all the reviews I've seen and usage reports from other hikers say these bags are practically indestructible. The only thing that i think it maybe could have been from is a rub mark on the dry bag latch that i use to keep my quilt and clothing in as thats the only thing in my pack that even has edges. If not that, maybe something in my front meshy pocket but i dont keep sharp objects in there either. I really have no idea. Regardless, i just bought 3 more. At the end of the day, they cost 2.50 so i'm not too concerned. More just mystified how my first one developed holes.

    Lightweight, inexpensive, durable

Posted by Gene E. on 18th Aug 2020

I bought a three pack and the first bag was still keeping things dry after 10 days and nights on the Appalachian Trail and it rained every day! I had a 50 liter pack and the bag held all my clothes and sleeping gear. I like that they are lightweight and inexpensive. One reviewer complained about the crinkly noise (like a potato chip bag) which is true but the more I used the bag the less crinkly it sounded. On the last day of hiking I tore a hole in it with the backpack zipper. I put a piece of duct tape over the hole and used that same bag for six more days of AT hiking a few weeks later (only rained every other day on that trip). They work great!

    Perfect bag liner

Posted by Unknown on 11th Jun 2020

Heard of nylofume bags on r/Ultralight. Shipped out super quick from when I ordered. I was afraid I wouldn't get them before my overnight trip, but they arrived in time. Bag fit very well inside my Osprey Talon 44. It could for sure accommodate larger bags, though I don't have one to try so I can't say how large you can go. I think 55-60L would be fine. Material seems very tough, yet light. Fortunately, it didn't rain on me so I can't say how waterproof it is.

    Nylofume Bags

Posted by WoodcutterFL on 2nd Jun 2020

June 2, 2020. Great for storage, long-lasting, and strong. The bags I received were the same as those given to me when the house was tented years ago and I still have and use some of those. They are stamped as nylofume on the bag. These bags are large, measure about 20 x 39 (overall 40x78). These work well for camping to keep things free of bugs and water pending on the closure.

    Cottage Service!

Posted by Chad Grissom on 19th Mar 2020

There isn’t much else left to say, this is indeed THE pack liner. This liner fits beautifully inside my HMG 2400 Junction and can comfortably accommodate ALL my gear without presenting the fear of water escaping into the inside. You hear talk about these bags being “louder” than the competition when packing/unpacking, I was leery going into my first purchase due to this. I can proudly say, this bag is NOT loud and more importantly bomber! Enough about the bag, I’m sure at this point you have done enough research to realize this is the bag of the majority. What I would like to speak of is LiteSmith as a company! The members of this team are at the top of their game in terms of customer service, off trail “trail angels” if you will. I called (LATE) due to realizing I was out of liners and was only a few days away from escaping to the trail, I was advised to submit the order and ensured they would be to me without delaying my start day. Again, leery...go figure, I open my mailbox to realize that my liners had made it from CA —> TN in 2 DAYS! This alone is why LiteSmith has a customer for life. Customer service goes a long way, thanks guys!!

    Perfect for Inside an Ursack

Posted by MNron on 4th Aug 2019

We use these as water- and odor-resistant liners inside our Ursacks. We have regular-size Ursacks, but I think these Nylofume bags would fit nicely inside the largest Ursacks, too. We "seal" them by twisting the extra bag material, then folding it back on itself, and holding it in that position with a 6" Holy Grail Bungee--quick & effective. One of ours has been used for 8 days in this manner; it shows lots of wrinkles but no signs of wear or tearing. This 3-pack should last us a long time.

It works and it's light and I haven't torn it

Posted by Langly on 30th Dec 2018

Well it's a bag, it's light, it's transparent, it fits well in a Z-packs Nero, it kept everything dry, it's reasonably priced and it wasn't nearly as noisy as I thought it would be. No holes yet after a few days in cactus and rock country. I'd say it's a winner. Durability to be determined but it looks promising.

Posted by Unknown on 17th Dec 2018

Right size for my bag (exos 48). Didn't have to endure wet conditions yet, but having a clear bag is an improvement over trash bags. I was expecting a bit of noise, as the material is crinkly - but that wasn't a problem.

    Ninja-tested, hiker approved

Posted by Jay on 8th Oct 2018

I got these to help prevent raids by the infamous ninja squirrels of Havasu Falls and I can say that results are positive! There was no evidence of attack or even attempted attacks despite seeing multiple invaders around our campsite during our stay. I don't know how many victims there were among our fellow campers but good campsite hygiene certainly made us a less inviting target. The bags themselves are surprisingly durable for their thickness and I plan on reusing them for future trips which definitely increases the return on investment.

    Strong Bag

Posted by Marshall on 27th May 2018

This bag is perfect, way lighter than trash compactor bag. The only compactor bag I have is in another country so I can't compare. This is how I found litesmith, I didn't want to purchase a whole box of compactor bags so I was researching alternatives and found a better option along the way. Pros: No waste (unless you own a compactor) Stronger Lighter No stretch (allows you to compact air out of your quilt as you pack Con: Just a little noisy (when your stuffing it its a little loud. its quiet after loaded up)

    Lightest Pack Liner

Posted by Unknown on 16th May 2018

This is the lightest pack liner I have found, and other than the loud material (which I was expecting) it is perfect. Material noise is similar to a sun chip bag, and is only an issue if you are packing up while others sleep.

    Amazing refinement in pack weight

Posted by Dave on 9th May 2018

This is fresh on the heels of my switch to a polycro ground cloth for my tent and a switch from Tyvek. Over time I'm getting more interested in getting lighter, and shockingly the groundcloth shaved six Oz from my load, and the bag liner looks like it's going to hold up swimmingly. Taking another oz off the pack will either help go lighter or facilitate another desired item to get added in. Either way, a win!

Trash compactor bags are pretty heavy for what a pack liner is supposed to be, but these bags are light weight and very durable. I'm able to fit most of my important gear (sleeping bag, etc.) that I want to keep dry in one comfortable. With a second one I can keep all my gear protected.
