The Nitecore® NWE10 Electronic Whistle delivers a powerful, effortless signal for hiking, trail running, adventure racing, camping, and emergency situations. With the press of a button, it produces a piercing 126 dB clear audible signal to help you communicate your location across trails, forests, valleys, and other challenging outdoor environments. Unlike traditional whistles that require repeated blowing, NWE10 lets you signal without constantly using your breath and energy. When you’re injured, hypothermic, or losing consciousness, you may lack the strength or ability to actively call for help. NWE10 keeps making noise, so you don’t have to.

SOS mode automatically repeats a distress signal approximately every three minutes, while BEACON mode provides continuous beeping for location marking. Whether you're separated from your group, navigating low visibility, or calling for help, NWE10 provides an easy way to make your position heard. It delivers up to 80 hours of runtime in both SOS and BEACON modes and features convenient USB-C recharging. It continues operating while connected to a power bank for extended signaling when needed.

At just 1.34 oz (38 g), NWE10 is an easy add to your kit without unnecessary weight. It's built for demanding conditions with operation down to sub-freezing -40°F (-40°C), IPX7 water protection, and 1-meter impact resistance. The included OUTDOCK™ mounting bracket attaches to backpack straps, webbing, and MOLLE systems. Secure NWE10 to the mounting bracket with the built-in clip then unclip for quick access. Ready when you need it.

Four indicators display charging status and power level. Short press the Power Button to display the power level (and emit a single beep). During charging, the indicators will gradually transition from flashing to steady to indicate the power level. When fully charged, all four indicators will be steady on.

FAQ

What is the Nitecore NWE10 electronic outdoor whistle used for?

The Nitecore NWE10 is an electronic outdoor whistle designed for outdoor communication, location signaling, and emergency distress signaling. One press activates a continuous signal. NWE10 delivers up to 126 dB and features SOS and BEACON modes. Unlike conventional outdoor whistles that require manual blowing, NWE10 is ideal for situations where you need to signal continuously, mark your location, or call for help.

What's the difference between the Nitecore NWE10 and a conventional outdoor whistle?

The key difference is the Nitecore NWE10 uses electronic signaling and supports continuous operation. Conventional whistles require repeated blowing, making it difficult to maintain continuous signaling when taking a break. When injured, hypothermic, or unconscious, you may lack the strength or ability to actively call for help. NWE10 produces sound with a single press and features auto-repeating SOS and BEACON modes, making it better suited for extended communication, location signaling, and emergency distress situations.

What outdoor activities is the Nitecore NWE10 suitable for?

The Nitecore NWE10 is designed for a wide range of outdoor situations, including:

Emergency Distress Signal – Activate SOS for automatic, repeating sound signals to continuously call for help.

Position Reporting – Quickly alert teammates to your location when the group spreads out.

Race Gear – Weighing just 1.34 oz (38 g), NWE10 is easy to carry and ready to sound with a single press when needed.

Campsite Locating – Run BEACON mode at the campsite to provide an audible reference point to more easily find your way back.

Low-Visibility Conditions – Help communicate location and direction between teammates in fog, snow, dense forests, and other environments with limited visibility.

Wildlife Warning – Alert certain wildlife to your presence, helping reduce unexpected encounters in the wild.

What is the SOS mode on the Nitecore NWE10 used for?

The SOS mode is designed for continuous audible distress signaling in emergencies. Once activated, it automatically repeats the SOS signal without requiring you to keep holding the button. Even if you need to rest, become unable to move, or lose consciousness afterward, NWE10 can continue delivering the SOS signal automatically.

What is the BEACON mode on the Nitecore NWE10 used for?

The BEACON mode is designed to provide an audible location marker. Place the Nitecore NWE10 at a campsite or other fixed location, and its repeating sound can help your companions identify the direction and locate the spot. NWE10 is particularly useful for campsite location, fixed-point marking, and other outdoor situations where a continuous audible reference is needed.

Is the Nitecore NWE10 suitable for trail running and outdoor races?

Yes. Weighing just 1.34 oz (38 g), the Nitecore NWE10 is compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry with minimal burden during long-distance races. When you need to communicate, signal your location, or call for help, simply press the button to activate the whistle. Some trail running, orienteering, and adventure races require or recommend carrying a whistle. Always refer to the official rules of the specific event for equipment requirements.

How loud is the Nitecore NWE10? What is the sound frequency?

The NWE10 delivers a maximum sound output of 126 dB and a continuous sound frequency of 3,300 Hz. Under ideal free-field conditions and identical test parameters, the 126 dB NWE10 has approximately 4 times the sound intensity of a 120 dB conventional outdoor whistle and may theoretically achieve up to approx. 2 times the effective sound range. 3,300 Hz frequency falls within the range of human hearing sensitivity, helping the signal stand out from natural environmental sounds. Actual sound propagation may vary depending on terrain, wind noise, ambient noise, and other environmental factors. Results may vary based on actual usage conditions. Unless necessary, avoid prolonged close-range use to prevent hearing damage.

How long does the Nitecore NWE10 run on a single charge?

The Nitecore NWE10 features a built-in 300 mAh low-temperature-resistant Li-ion battery. Both the SOS and BEACON mode provide up to 80 hours of runtime, covering the critical first 72 hours of an emergency and supporting extended outdoor activities and emergency situations.

How much does Nitecore NWE10 weigh? Is it easy to carry?

The Nitecore NWE10 weighs just 1.34 oz (38 g), or 1.69 oz (48 g) with the OUTDOCK bracket. NWE10 features a built-in clip and lanyard hole and comes with an OUTDOCK bracket that can be clipped or attached to backpack shoulder straps, webbing, MOLLE systems, and other locations for easy carrying and quick access.

Can the Nitecore NWE10 be used in temperatures as low as -40°C (-40°F)?

Yes. The Nitecore NWE10 features a low-temperature-resistant Li-ion battery and can operate in temperatures as low as sub-freezing -40°F (-40°C), making it suitable for snow sports, cold regions, and extreme winter conditions.

Is the Nitecore NWE10 waterproof? Can I use it in the rain?

Yes. The Nitecore NWE10 features IPX7-rated protection and can withstand drops from up to 1 meter, providing protection against rain, moisture, and everyday drops. Do not immerse NWE10 in water or other liquids for extended periods.

How do I charge the Nitecore NWE10? Can I use it while charging?

The Nitecore NWE10 supports USB-C charging and can be used normally while charging. For extended use outdoors, NWE10 can also be connected to a power bank for uninterrupted signaling.

Can the Nitecore NWE10 warn off or scare away wild animals?

When moving through the outdoors, a loud signal helps alert certain wildlife to your presence, helping reduce unexpected encounters in the wild. However, animals respond differently to sound, and NWE10 is not a dedicated wildlife deterrent and cannot guarantee a deterrent effect. It should not replace maintaining a safe distance or following professional safety measures recommended for the local area.
